dns_section

DNS section

Valid arguments

  • fully qualified domain name (FQDN)
  • IPv4 or IPv6 address

Purpose

Look up DNS records and warn when returned records don't match the specification.

Supported wildcards and quoting

None.

Why don't I need to quote FQDNs?

Fully qualified domain names (FQDNs), IPv4 addresses, and IPv6 addresses don't allow spaces, so spaces make a natural domain name separator. This obviates the need for quoting domain names and IP addresses.

Notes

This section may be repeated as many times as needed.

Suggested minimal permissions

Typically, no setup is needed because Martinet will use the default nameserver which will resolve any campus or public FQDN. If you're trying to vet the data returned from a nameserver that only replies to queries from certain IP addresses, make sure that the computer running Martinet is on a supported IP address.
